Seabridge Gold Refutes Repeated Misleading Claims About the KSM Project by Rivers Without Borders
Brent Murphy, Senior Vice President of Environmental Affairs at Seabridge Gold, sent a letter to Will Patric, Executive Director of Rivers Without Borders, addressing the misleading claims in the KSM Briefers published on Rivers Without Borders’ website. The Briefers presents a troubling departure from the well-documented science and collaborative decision-making that has guided the KSM Project for more than 15 years.
The Briefers also overlook the significant work Seabridge Gold has completed and continues to undertake since receiving the Environmental Assessment (EA) approvals in 2014 to keep the KSM Project current and aligned with evolving science and regulatory expectations, and the construction work completed or initiated based on which the KSM Project was granted a “substantially started” determination.
In his letter, Murphy outlines in detail:
- The rigorous independent review and Indigenous engagement that shaped the KSM Project
- Reclamation planning and bonding commitment
- Seabridge’s comprehensive plans for tailings management and water quality protection
- How Seabridge clearly met—and in many cases exceeded—the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office’s criteria for “substantially started” status.
