Job Opening: Site Manager

This role manages all aspects of the KSM site during the Substantial Start Project.  Including but not limited to implementing and executing reviews and sign off detailed contract packages prior to construction and delivery of packages in construction through commissioning and handover associated with the KSM Substantial Start Project. This includes constructability reviews of future detailed design and construction activities associated with the development of all KSM Project facilities including: camp and administration buildings, roads and bridges, fish offset habitat projects, rock storage facilities, off site infrastructure, water treatment plants and associated ponds, high voltage transmission lines, site power reticulation, communications infrastructure, maintenance facilities, TMF, drilling programs, portal infrastructure for the Mitchell/Treaty Tunnel, and all other project infrastructure. Responsibilities include active management of an owner’s site execution team, multiple consultants, subconsultants, contractors and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of site including HSS, Environmental, Site Services, Construction and Commissioning
  • Manages aspects of constructability review of design development and detailed design
  • Ensures that work is always executed in a safe manner
  • Ensures that Seabridge Gold corporate safety and business goals are met or exceeded at KSM
  • Confirms that project construction and site service activities and services are executed in conformity with KSM’s environmental permits, policies, and plans
  • Ensures that project construction and site service activities and services are executed in conformity with KSM’s community relations policies and plans
  • Directs the preparation for major works packages to be received and executed by the site construction teams
  • Prepares annual budgets with input and assistance from the Sr Project Manager, Package Managers, Sr Construction Manager, Site Services Manager, HSS Manager and the Project Controls Manager
  • Reviews and approves site project construction schedules and budgets
  • Reviews and approves project construction schedules with input from Sr Construction Manager and internal stakeholders
  • Monitors construction and commissioning progress and implements recovery action as required
  • Monitors construction and commissioning actual costs versus budget and implements recovery action as required 
  • Ensures strict compliance with KSM Project Change Management processes
  • Ensures timely delivery of project construction and commissioning services to internal stakeholders
  • Coordinates risk assessments with input and assistance from the KSM Risk Specialist, KSM Package Managers, Consultants, internal stakeholders and the KSM HSS, Construction and Site Services Team
  • Ensure that KSM Virtual Design and Construction initiatives are properly resourced, and that work is executed in accordance with applicable KSM business and technology objectives
  • Ensure that the KSM BIM Execution Plans are implemented to support 4D, 5D, 6D (as applicable) and 7D technology objectives
  • Monitor VDC and BXP technology objectives utilizing the KSM approved VDC and BXP metrics
  • Periodically reviews the Project Management Plan with input from execution team managers to ensure conformity with current requirements, and revise as required
  • Trains, guides, and evaluates the performance of direct reports, making recommendations for improvement where required
  • Identifies consultant and contractor performance issues and works with Project Controls, the Contracts Department, and other internal stakeholders to resolve issues
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and building code requirements including Federal, Provincial, and Local
  • Ensures conformity with industry codes of practice and standards
  • Ensures that all work conforms with the specified quality standards
  • Assigns, schedules, reviews, and evaluates work of subordinates
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Execution Manager or Project Director

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Current BC Mine Supervisor Certificate
  • Will be required to be designated as the Mine Manager when onsite
  • Minimum 10 years of large-scale mining development experience
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Environmental and Community Compliance obligations
  • Demonstrated experience in building projects within First Nation Territories and IBA commitments
  • Experience managing and coordinating engineering, construction, and commissioning.
  • Knowledge managing and coordinating project logistics
  • Experience managing engineering contracts, construction contracts and vendor services contracts
  • Knowledge and sound experience working with teams and interacting with contractors
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture
  • Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
  • Knowledge of design development and detailed design process
  • Expertise of construction and trade practices
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools used to track cost, time, and quality
  • Expertise of management concepts and best practices
  • Strong and effective communication and engagement skills
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
