Meet Alan Azak, a proud member of Nisga’a Nation and another employee of our contractor Arctic Construction, working on the construction of the Glacier Creek Fish Compensation site, part of the site capture activities we are undertaking at our KSM Project.
What community are you from?
Nisga’a Community of Gitwinksihlkw (Canyon City)
What job do you do here?
Rock truck driver
How long have you been working in the industry?
This is my first opportunity to run the rock truck. I had the tickets for a long time but didn’t get an opportunity due to a lack of experience. I am very thankful for the opportunity Arctic Construction has given me.
What do you enjoy about your job and working here?
I love the work and the opportunity to drive and show that I am a skilled operator. I also enjoy working with all the guys, as they are very supportive and are helping me to learn skills to be a better operator.
What does it mean to you to work alongside your Daughter Kimberly on this project?
I am very proud to be with her here on this project. I am always supporting and talking to her, so she is confident when she finally gets a chance to drive the rock trucks.
Anything else you would like to share?
I just love the opportunity and the chance to work with Arctic Construction. There are lots of companies in the North and I was never able to get an opportunity, that’s why I jumped at the chance when it was available. I used to do maintenance work, but when this opportunity came along, I discussed it with my wife and explained to her this was my chance to “run a machine” so I am going to take it.
