KSM Tailings Management Animation: Correcting Misconceptions
An overview of KSM’s TMF can also be found here: KSM Project’s Tailings Management Facility.
Seabridge produced five videos about the project, which explain their design and operational plans. The third and fourth video give the most information about the TMF, but the first two are useful for context: http://ksmproject.com/project/project-videos/
In 2015, Seabridge formed an Independent Geotechnical Review Board (IGRB) who provide independent, expert oversight, opinion and advice to Seabridge on the design, construction, operational management and ultimate closure of the TMF.
Information about the IGRB can be found here:
Their first report can be found here: http://ksmproject.com/independent-review-board/
In 2016, the design of the KSM TMF was confirmed as Best Available Technology.

There is misinformation in the public about the KSM Project and its TMF. Factual, transparent and accurate information can be found here: http://ksmproject.com/news/
Across the globe, there is much speculation about the potential of Tailings Management Facility (TMF) failures. This paper provides an overview of the various reasons for failure.
Regarding KSM’s TMF, we regularly hear concerns about its size. Interestingly, this paper concludes that Tailings Dam size, whether volume or height, is not a significant factor in failures. Click here to read the paper.
The design of the KSM Tailings Management Facility (TMF) was compared to that of the Feijão tailings dam I (Feijão) in Brazil that failed on January 25, 2019. There are stark differences between the two designs and the conditions that led to the failure of Feijão are not applicable to the KSM TMF.
